The society’s year 2016
This year, our memorial site has progressed positively once again. The museum’s pedagogical program for the “Oflag VI A” was developed further through a section on the history of the Silesian refugees camp and has already been trialled by the first visiting school classes.
In March we celebrated the deeply moving calvary mass, here we followed the calvary cycle painted by Guillaume Gillet.
On 12th June a celebratory ceremony had us remember the first Silesian refugees who moved into the barracks 70 years ago.
200 visitors came to see us on our national Open Memorial Site Day in September. The reception of so many visitors are testament that our exhibitions document the lives of the French officers and Silesians in a concrete and vivid manner.
The society’s year came to a close in our traditional advent’s mass on 26th November.
The society’s board would like to thank everyone for the manifold support that has been offered once again for the conservation of the French chapel and the construction of the memorial site in 2016.
